Frequently Asked Questions

What is DNA?

Your DNA is made up of genes that provide the recipes for proteins our bodies make. The information in DNA is stored as a code made up of four chemical bases: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T).

What is Epigenetics?

Epigenetics is the change in genetic expression based on your exposure to a combination of factors such as age, environment, lifestyle such as sleep and stress, and diet.

What if I want to share info with my practitioner?

Sharing your information with your practitioner is easy. From the app, click on the menu in the upper left corner. Select “Download My Report” and a pdf of your results will be emailed to you. You can share this pdf with your healthcare provider.

How long till I get my results?

DNA results will take approximately 5-6 weeks and epigenetic results will take 3-4 more weeks after receiving your DNA results.

What if I want a print out of my results?

From the app, click on the menu in the upper left corner. Select “Download My Report” and a pdf of your results will be emailed to you.

I do not have enough saliva to reach the 4ml mark on the collection device.

Many people find it is helpful to think about things like the smell of food cooking or lemons to increase saliva production. Pushing your tongue up to the roof of your mouth can also be helpful.

What is in the box?

The box should contain:

  • A small plastic tube to hold your saliva sample with your kit ID on printed on its side
  • A plastic funnel, which is meant to be screwed onto the plastic tube to make the sample collection easier
  • A folded instruction card containing all information that you need to know plus your individual Kit ID

Should any of the contents mentioned above be damaged or missing, please contact us immediately.

What is my kit ID?

Your kit ID can be found on the side of the test tube in your box and must either be scanned by the ID scanner in our app or manually entered upon registering through the app before sending your sample off. If you have not registered your kit ID by the time the sample reaches us, we will NOT be able to process the sample and you might have to provide another sample.

Who should have this testing done?

A DNA test is very easy to do.

All that’s needed is a simple saliva sample taken at home by spitting in to a tube (provided in the kit).

Your whole genetic story will be in these few cells. The sample is analysed in our laboratory and then experts in sports science, nutrition and health, who understand all the current research, interpret the results for you. Our DNA kit comes with a simple to follow instruction card to help you take your sample correctly.

How reliable is genetic testing?

Reliability of testing is something that all genetic testing companies should strive for, from a start the actual raw data must be accurate. We have done checks that DNA data coming out of the lab can be replicated in a different lab and that the results match, from all analysis of raw data we find that we have a 99.99% accuracy on average, which is the gold standard. The interpretation of data is where most genetic companies differ, we have an expert team made from the scientists in the lab, professional sports coaches, health professionals and sports nutritionists so that the interpretation is made from rock solid published research, in company research and real world results.

Can I upgrade from DNA Profiling to the Biological Age & Epigenetic Profile?

We do offer an option where you can upgrade after purchasing our DNA Profiling kit to gain access to your Biological Age & Epigenetic Profile. For further information on procedure and costs involved, please contact us at info@mytoolboxgenomics.com

Why do a genetic test?

As humans, we each have between 20,000 and 25,000 genes. Most genes are the same in all of us, but there will be differences in less than one percent of them, which is what makes us unique.

The science of genetics is helping us to understand what these small differences mean. We are all comfortable with the idea that our genes define our external characteristics – eye color, height, hair color, the size of your nose, etc. A genetic test reveals how genetics have defined your inner workings – how you metabolize food groups, which micronutrients your body efficiently absorbs and which ones it doesn’t, also your capacity for endurance, speed and strength.

We reveal 1,000 biogenetic markers that define your body makeup as it relates to health and fitness. That’s why genetic testing is becoming increasingly popular and useful.

What are genes and DNA?

A gene is a basic building block for all living things. Each gene is made up of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Like a recipe in a cookery book, your DNA provides the instructions needed to build and maintain all the different parts of your body. DNA is like a set of chains – some long, some short – made up of four different types of molecules (nucleotides) that, for ease, are labelled A, C, G, and T.

A variation in the position of just one of these nucleotides in a DNA chain could make a difference to how your body works. These variations are called SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphism – pronounced ‘snip’). It is these differences that we look for in genetic testing and research.

How can genetic testing help with sport and exercise?

Just as genes define your outer characteristics they define your inner body makeup as well. So your capacity for strength, speed, fat loss and endurance are all shaped by your genes!

By discovering and exploiting your own, unique genetic landscape you will be able to optimize training, diet and recovery protocols for optimum performance in sport and exercise.

What if I want to cancel my subscription?

Email your request to info@mytoolboxgenomics.com. Please be sure to include your user name, email address associated with the app and kit barcode.

Are there system requirements for Android devices?

Yes there are. Our system requires Android OS version 6 or higher. If you are running an earlier version of Android OS, unfortunately our app will not run on your device. Please send an email explaining the issue to info@mytoolboxgenomics.com and we will refund any money received.

Why am I getting an email from DNA verification?

Our confirmation and system verification emails will come from the domain "dnaverificationemail.com." Please ensure you have added this domain to your contact list so that you receive emails from us in a timely manner.

How do I return my sample if I'm outside the US?

Please note, for orders outside the US, we do not provide the return shipping for your sample. You will need to choose a carrier and pay for the shipping of your sample back to us in the US.

Return Policy

We will accept a return of your unused kit within 30 days from the date your kit was shipped. We will refund all monies less the shipping cost of $10. If you choose to not return the kit itself, we void the test and refund you all monies less $25 for shipping and kit components.

What happens if my sample failed during processing?

Should your sample fail, we will send a new kit at no charge. However, if the second sample also fails, replacements or refunds will be done on a case by case basis.
